HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome to 2015. I hope your holidays were filled with fun, family, friends and lots of wonderful memories.
Our new year at San Benito will bring a new approach to school-wide discipline. We will begin a nation-wide program called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This program is designed to support and increase students academic success and behavioral skills. It is a school-wide plan that helps students reach important social and learning goals.
As part of the PBIS program, we have established several clear expectations for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school. These core values are PAWS—Positive Attitude; Act Responsibly; Work Hard and Safety First. We will clearly teach those expectations to the students and reward them frequently with positive praise. The expectations for student behavior will be clear throughout our school—including the hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, playground and classrooms.
Our school expectations will specifically address bullying behaviors, provide for a safer school environment, and give more time for classroom instruction. By detailing every expected behavior and teaching our students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone in the school, including students, teachers, front office staff, parents, playground and instructional assistants.
You will undoubtedly hear about some of these new things at home.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
